Minor Car Service in Pakenham
Your minor service is done in-house at our own benches, with our own tools, using the oil your manufacturer actually specifies. We scan every module for stored faults, not just the engine, and we tell you what we find before anything extra gets done. Call us with your rego and odometer reading and we'll lock in a price before you drop the car off.
What happens in a minor service
Engine and fluids
- Oil and filter change using oil that meets your manufacturer's approval (for example VW 507 00, BMW Longlife-04 or Mercedes MB 229.51). Diesels with a particulate filter need low-ash oil, and we check for it.
- Coolant, brake fluid, power steering and washer levels checked, with brake fluid tested for moisture
- Air filter and cabin filter inspected
Safety checks
- Brake pads, discs, hoses and lines
- Tyre tread depth, age, wear pattern and pressures (uneven wear is often the first sign of a suspension or alignment problem)
- Steering and suspension components, including bushes, ball joints and shock absorbers
- Under-car check for oil, coolant and gearbox leaks
Electrical and electronic
- Battery and charging system test
- Lights, wipers, belts and hoses
- Full-module fault scan, so a warning stored in the ABS, transmission or body control module isn't missed because the dash light isn't on yet
Minor service for hybrids and EVs
There's no engine oil to change, but a hybrid or EV minor service still has real work to do:
- Brakes: regenerative braking does most of the stopping, so pads and calipers can seize or corrode from underuse. We check and free up slides and clean contact points.
- Coolant: many hybrids and EVs have separate loops for the battery and power electronics. We check the level and condition.
- 12V battery: a weak 12V battery is a common cause of electric and hybrid cars refusing to wake up or throwing a string of unrelated warnings.
- Tyres: battery weight and instant torque wear tyres faster. We check wear patterns and pressures.
- Fault scan across high-voltage and battery-related modules.
How often should you do a minor service?
Check your logbook, as intervals vary. As a guide:
- Every 6 months or 10,000 km is common on many Japanese and Korean cars, turbo petrols, diesels and 4x4s.
- Every 12 months or 15,000 km is common on newer European and many hybrid and electric models. Some European cars use a condition-based service indicator instead of a fixed interval.
- Short trips, stop-start traffic on the Princes Freeway, dusty rural roads and towing all wear oil faster. If that's you, don't stretch the interval.
FAQs
How often does my car need a minor service?
Check your logbook, because intervals vary. Every 6 months or 10,000 km is common on many Japanese and Korean cars, turbo petrols, diesels and 4x4s. Every 12 months or 15,000 km is common on newer European and many hybrid models. It's whichever comes first, time or distance.
My service light came on but I've only done 5,000 km. Why?
Service intervals are based on time as well as distance. Oil and brake fluid age whether or not the car is driven, so a low-kilometre car can still be due.
What's the difference between a minor and a major service?
A minor service covers the oil and filter, fluid checks, a safety inspection and a fault scan. A major service adds the items that are due at longer intervals, such as spark plugs, brake fluid, gearbox and differential fluids and belts. See our {major service page}.
Do you service hybrids and EVs?
Yes. There's no engine oil to change, but brakes, coolant, the 12V battery, tyres and a fault scan still need attention. Tell us the make and model when you book.
Will servicing here affect my warranty?
Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer generally can't void your new-car warranty just because an independent workshop did the service, as long as it follows the schedule with suitable parts and fluids. See our {logbook service page}. [Owner to confirm wording.]
How much does a minor service cost?
It depends on your car: the oil specification, the filters and the engine all change the price. Call us with your rego and odometer reading and we'll lock in a number before you drop the car off.
Does a minor service include a roadworthy certificate?
No, a roadworthy is a separate inspection.
Do you service cars from outside Pakenham?
Yes. We look after drivers from Officer, Beaconsfield, Berwick, Narre Warren, Clyde North, Nar Nar Goon, Pakenham Upper, Koo Wee Rup and Tynong.

Quoted for a "minor service" that sounds like a lot more than that? Bring us the quote and tell us what they said was wrong. We'll tell you what's actually wrong, what's genuinely urgent, and what's been added in. No charge for the conversation, no pressure to book the work with us, and no upsells.
Text or email a photo of the quote to [PHONE / EMAIL], or bring it in. If we need to see the car to give you a straight answer, we'll say so. [Confirm whether that inspection is free.]
